Giving Back to the Community

Stephanie, Jessica, and the whole Procyon Team know that Procyon Training doesn’t exist without the community they serve. To say thanks, we offer our training services to local rescues at discounted rates and when possible, at no cost at all. We are so fortunate to now have a 501c3 Public Charity, Reaching for the Stars, to help fund our work with rescues. Please go to www.reachingforthestarssa.org for more information and to see how you can help.

Our Behavior Modification Programs and Protocols are rooted in the work of The work of Dr. Karen Overall, MA, VMD, PhD, DACVB, CAAB; Leslie McDevitt, MLA, CDBC, CPDT; and Michael Shikashio, CDBC serve as the foundation to help these dogs find their forever homes.

Starting in January, Procyon Training began to work with the Humane Society of Marion County to assess and develop training and or behavioral modification plans for dogs and cats identified by staff or volunteers. This partnership can’t be successful without the commitment of the staff and an amazing Training Team comprised of dedicated volunteers.

Project Canine H.O.M.E. Is a collaborative effort of the Humane Society of Marion County, Open Hands Animal Rescue, Marion County Animal Services, and Procyon Training. Each week, volunteers bring dogs from the three rescues to participate in an 8 week Basic Obedience Class. The class is taught by Stephanie Roberts, an accredited dog trainer through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavioral Consultants. The dogs will learn basic obedience cues such as Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leave It, and Place.
